Seeking the Divine for 2009!
Aloha Everyone,
This is Coach Kimo – HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Mrs. Coach and I were playing around with some “catchy” phrases for our new year’s resolution. I came up with – Letting Your Light Shine for 2009! And then, she came up with – Seeking the Divine for 2009!
I liked hers a lot better. And while reading our daily devotions in Genesis and Luke, I found the definition.
Before sharing what DIVINE means – let me tell you what it DOESN’T mean:
DOUBT …………………….… Makes you question God’s Word and his goodness
DISCOURAGEMENT …… Makes you look at your problems rather that at God
DIVERSION ………………... Makes the wrong things seem attractive so that you will want them more than the right things
DEFEAT ………………………. Makes you feel like a failure so that you don’t even try
DELAY ………………………… Makes you put off doing something so that it never gets done
Obviously, these are ploys of the enemy – these are Satan’s plan against us. In Genesis 3, Satan tried to make Eve think that sin is good, pleasant and desirable. A knowledge of both good and evil seemed harmless to her. People usually choose wrong things because they have become convinced that those things are good, at least for themselves. Our sins do not always appear ugly to us, and the pleasant sins are the hardest to avoid. So prepare yourself for the attractive temptations that may come your way. We cannot always prevent temptation, but there is always a way of escape.
1 Corth. 13:10 says, “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”
So, what’s the definition of DIVINE?
The dictionary says; of, relating to, or proceeding directly from God, or a god deity; HEVEANLY, GODLIKE or SUPERB
The Bible says: to know by inspiration, intuition, or reflection
2 Peter 1:3 - “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. “
The power to lead a godly life comes from God. Because we don’t have the resources to be truly godly, God allows us to “share his divine nature” in order to keep us from sin and help us live for him. When we are born again, God by his Spirit empowers us with his own goodness.
So, what’s the moral of the story – seek God in all you do, everyday of your life, no matter what year it is. But, because it’s 2009, we have a new catchy phrase that can catch everyone’s attention allowing us to witness and be a testimony in their lives.
Thanks to all of you for being an inspiration to Mrs. Coach and I – God bless you all!
