Words from Jason:
That was a incredible day and very liberating for me. Having a C3-4 spinal cord injury (paralyzed from the neck down) often makes one feel like no recreational activities are possible. It always feels great to overcome barriers/limitations. My sister left a quote on my bathroom mirror that morning which ended up summing up that day perfectly-
New Experiences Create New Realities!
Aside from getting married to an amazing girl 3 days earlier, Canoeing was the absolute best experience I've had in 18 years! I've never felt more relaxed and trusting in all those who help me. I felt so liberated and free after canoeing that I decided to try Parasailing the next day and it was amazing! This Saturday I'm going to try surfing with www.accesssurf.org. I firmly believe that nothing is impossible when you put your mind and heart to it. Thank you for all your help and photo taking to capture the moment. None of what I experienced would be even possible without the help of all the volunteers. My hat goes off to you and all those who make it possible. A special thanks goes out to [Coach] Aka [Hemmings] for his words of encouragement that changed my whole perception of what is possible when you keep an open mind. Thank you all for changing my life. With love, respect, appreciation and blessings, Jason
ps- please send me ALL photos of that special day. I've never seen my mom smile so much as that day. Feel free to share this on your blog and with others.
