Coach's Comments 8-8-09

Aloha Everyone,

Recreation Paddling is experiencing a unique growth pattern right now…we are having more beginner paddlers then Rec paddlers.

Let me share some stats - if you count the number of new paddlers that have signed waivers over the last three Saturdays as compared to the number of regular Rec paddlers showing up, the ratio has been 5-to-1.

We’ve had a minimum of 3 or 4 canoes full of beginner paddlers constantly rotating off /on the beach for 3-4 hours each Saturday for over a month now, but not enough Rec regulars to help with the loads. So, let me ask you – “is this a good problem, or a bad problem?”

“Well Coach, you got what you asked for! You asked God for the increase and He did. You said to God, 'If I help you build your Kingdom, please help us by bringing the people.' And He did! So, what are you complaining?”

It’s always a good problem when you have new people showing up for your ministry event, but it’s difficult when you burn the people out who are trying to serve them. I’m always praying that there will be enough people to help each Saturday on a weekly basis.

And that’s been the nature of this ministry from the beginning. People have a hard time committing to a ministry like Rec Paddling, because they have nothing to commit to.

So, next Saturday, August 15, 2009, the Coaches and I have agreed it’s time again for our paddling clinics. First, “huli’ training. Second, advance paddling technique training. And third, if enough people are interested, we’ll conduct a basic steering clinic.

We’ll conduct the clinics in the early morning hours and when we’re done, we’ll paddle “around the island” for an open ocean excursion. I will post times for the clinics later in the week after I’ve consulted more with our coaches.

Lastly, but most important, please keep Travis’s mom in prayer for her gradual and miraculous recovery and pray for Ulu who has also been sick this past couple of weeks.

“Heavenly Father, I thank you right now for this wonderful ministry and help me to always remember that it was by faith and your grace that’s allowed us to build it. Thank you for allowing us to share our passion and giftings with the world and redeeming this part of Hawaiian culture for you. Keep everyone safe, strong and reassured that each week people will come to recognize your presence in us and on the beach as we stand as a lighthouse and testimony for your sufficient provisions and rewards. Bless those who give financially and sacrificially of their time and efforts to keep us operating successfully. And now, we also pray for healing faith for Travis’s mom, Myrna, as she recovers in the hospital and we pray for healing mercies for our Sister Ulu who is also recovering at this time. We say this in you and for you - through Jesus’ name we pray, Amen”

God bless you and see you on da beach,

Coach Kimo
