Coach's Comments for the Week

Aloha Everyone,
I'm on Maui - part ministry and part resting. Had day off today, Monday, 6/15, and was able to fly to Maui on Sunday evening. I spent the night on my friends farm in Waiehu Valley, 6 acres of mac-nut trees, where the river runs right behind his house. Pretty nice setting for little a R & R.

But the real reason I came was for a pastor friend of mine who is transferring and moving to Dallas, with his family, to begin a new extension of King's Cathedral in Texas. They held a special "commissioning" service for him and his family after serving here for 21 years. He was the church's worship leader and music pastor.

I don't know if many people realize that both Ann and I were saved and our children came to the Lord through this church on Maui back in 1982. We established many life long relationships and this church will always be our "home" church. We've only been on Oahu since 1998.

Anyway, I just wanted to take a moment to THANK everyone for supporting and donating your time, effort and money to our Brunch of the Beach this past Saturday. Lita has been so wonderful in keeping me informed of the activities on the beach during my absence on Saturday mornings.

Sometimes I feel like the "wandering" ministry leader who is abandoning his cause, and I always feel bad when I have to leave. But, individuals like Ken, Jimmy, Travis, Lita, Ulu, JoAnn and others...they all manage to keep the beach running smoothly.

These wonderful people are all "LEADERS" in my opinion. And I always have to remember that the reason they serve is not because of me or I'm forcing them to, it's because they love Jesus and they are reaching out to others to do the same.

When you think about it, that's the bottom line isn't it? Why do we do what we do? Why do you come out each Saturday morning to paddle? I'm sure many of us could find other things to do on Saturday's, but we choose to paddle.

Is it about exercise? Is it about enjoying the sun and ocean? Or is it even about fellowship? Here's my thought, I believe it's about learning how to be a better Christian and how we treat each other in the eye's of those He brings to beach each Saturday.

I'll close with this simple yet powerful scripture:

"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men." Rom. 12:9-18

God bless you always,
Coach Kimo
