Aloha Everyone,
This is Coach Kimo with our weekly "Rec Coach's Comments" newsletter.
Well, if you weren't there today for our First Saturday of Recreational Paddling, you'll have thirty four (34) more chances to join us. Yes, you read it correctly. We will be paddling for the next 34 Saturdays until October, 2009! Our season officially began this morning at our Sand Island Canoe Site.
It was Great to see everyone who showed up. Our beach was very busy this morning.
Our ministry/club leaders were all present and accounted for - Coach Cy & Lee Kalama headed up our mens and womens competitive crews. Coach Blane and Club President Charlie Thurston were present taking charge of rigging canoes and preparing canoes for the season. Coach Clayton was busy with the equipment inventory of amas, 'iakos, canvases, paddles, etc. etc. Registration was conducted by Yvette and other volunteers.
Coach Aka Hemmings was present conducting his steering clinic, which was is in it's fourth of six classes of twelve (12) people, all of which will become top class "steerers".
Coach Ken and I had a turn out of eleven (11) new paddlers with about fourteen (14) regulars from our "Rec Ohana Faithful". Even though Lita & Jimmy Aka couldn't join us today, I'm always grateful for Ulu, Maria, JoAnn, Troy, Robert and Jenn for their tremendous support.
It's always an open invitation for friends and family to join us between 8:00am-12:noon, every Saturday, to experience the fun, fellowship and feelings of paddling a "first class" 6-man fiberglass outrigger racing canoe.
All you have to bring is swimsuit, towel and sunscreen. We provide the rest. You must have a little ability to swim, and you will be given instructions in water safety, canoe safety and personal safety.
You are free to contact me anytime. See you on da' beach.
God bless you all,
Coach Kimo
