NHCC End of Season Party - 2008

Mahalo

Aloooooha !

We had a nice "sprinkling of rain" this Sunday morning.....God-perfect for a beautiful afternoon of approximately 100 people that was well-fed, especially in the dessert category !!! I think we all put on at least 5 pounds. Charmaine's Turkey adobo was killer, and her "cooked-in-the-bar" lumpia went "broke da mouth"! The salads prepared by Malia, Maria and others, were very healthy, and Yvette's chili was to die for ! And Quyen's carrot cake was the perfect meal-topper, especially with the double scoop of vanilla ice cream .....HELLO !!! The noodle dishes, the meat dishes and the pasta dishes were incredible and plentiful. No one left hungry...that's for sure !!

I never knew we could fit so many kids(and some adults)in the swimming pool ! For a while, it looked like the old Natatorium during the Summer Fun days of the 50's !!
Looked as though Rhonda Stewart and Capt. Wally's daughter had a nice paddle in our 2-person kayak where they traveled to the Kahala Hotel, and then Capt. Wally and his son took off and spent a nice time in the same kayak.

The large raft that we dub the "UFO" (Unusual Floating Object) was anchored near our backyard gate, and quite a few participants took advantage of the calm ocean and warm afternoon sun to bask aboard, and snorkel in the immediate area.

There was some serious spearfishing training as Coach Garrett and his son swam throughout the reef area observing tako and opio, the former too small to take home.

Medical procedure was performed by Dr. Malia as she extracted a small amount of vana shell from Ku'i's daughter's foot, and was good to go soon after.

Most of the attendees did a marvelous job of assisting in cleaning the outdoor area, stacking our plastic chairs, and our kitchen area looked cleaner than before the party started ! Big mahalos to Maria, cuz Pua'ala, cuz Donnalynn, daughters Malia and Maile for the great kitchen duty, both prepping and clean-up.

For all of you who attended....we were blessed to have such great weather, copious amounts of great-tasting food, incredible dialogue between Rec and Competitive paddlers and their families, and Capt. Wally and his family enhanced the spirited and embracing atmosphere of the entire afternoon and evening.

For those of you who missed it, we hopefully will have photos to share with all !

Aloha ke Akua !

Tom

P.S. Arnie and my "kid" brother. Thought maybe the troops would be interested. Yes, he is the smartest one of us !!!!
